If the Spunk Brothers have got any sense. (Which we all know they don't.) They should put a stupid offer into Montpellier for Ryad Boudebouz. (Who is very similar to Payet.) Then tell Marseille to cough up the necessary dough.

Add the euros taking place and the Olympics for missing our two best footballers.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
I agree with that Iron2010. it was the tour to USA which meant playing games too early and players getting too many knocks. Once again the EL came too early for us but I really don't expect that to happen again. We will start from a stronger base next season.

In the meantime I look forward to next weekend to see how our squad is really shaping up albeit 3 games too late....

Davey

We finally seem to have a squad that would have coped with the Thursdays. Although, we shouldn't suffer the hard times that we had without Payet, Lanzini and Sakho at the back end of last year.

Iron2010
Think you are right with Fernanades,he seems to have a great shot on him and pace. He seems similar to Pogba without the tricks. Calleri I'm not so sure, think that miss against Bournemouth will have knocked his confidence,if it had gone in would of set him up immensely.
I reckon Martinez might come on strong too, seems to have started a good relationship with Fletcher. Such a pity we are out of EL as I reckon they both could of played in the EFL cup.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
Now that the dust has settled the squad does look extremely strong and nearly all of the players work their socks off which is vital at our place. I fancy Fernandes and Calleri to be the surprise hits.

I was talking to a Valencia supporting mate who said that Feghouli is a super sub. He goes missing for long periods when starting but is a game changer from the bench.

Loves a strike from outside the area...

Hopefully some bench apparent ease and getting a starting role in the league cup

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
As was pointed out to me recently, Emilison Fernandes seems to have quietly slipped in under the radar just before our disasterous 2nd leg tie vs Astra

I knew nothing about him prior to him signing for us, other than knowing that his club didn't want to sell him & that a whole host of top clubs were keen to sign him

He might turn out to be crap but that fantastic goal for the Swiss u-21s plus the little youtube clips have certainly got my attention

What a FANTASTIC goal Fernandes scored for the Swiss u-21s tonight.

( and Alan has still not included him in the Confirmed in list)

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
Agree that central midfield still needs work longer term and a top DM in that area of the team is probably still needed.

IMO we have defintely strengthened the squad and options. Our best 11? Overall but this is not so clear. In the attacking area yes. Zaza should be an improvement on Carroll, Sakho, Valencia, Emineke and Jelavic.

In midfield, Ferghouli better than Moses? Hopefully too early to tell yet.
Tore better than Zarate - not so far.
Nordveit better than Song - worse IMO so far as Song was a better footballer but its early days.

Byram and/or Arbeloa better than Jenkinson - Yes and 2 of them.
J Arthur for Cresswell - as good.

CBs - Oxford for Tomkins (Burke loaned) - not yet.

Longer term we need 2 footballing CBs. Hopefully Oxford and / or Burke will fill the void. Ogbonna has the technical skills (Italians tend to) but Reidy and Collins lack of passing ability and poor technique on the ball, limits us as a team.

The same applies to Kouyate in midfield in some games. Great some games when running with the ball but in general team passing movements and execution of passing is very poor. It goes back to the fact he was a centre back originally I suspect?

If we want to get up another level we will need better technicians in central defence and midfield and that elusive all action DM. The Makele, Kante type of player.

But no complaints. We are progressing in terms of quality of the squad and team step by step each season.

Fletcher not in 25 man squad?

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
The reason they play better as a team is that they can consistently put out the same 11 week in week out...

I wouldn't say they are considably better then us... And I reckon they will be lucky to finish top 4 this season they haven't really strengthen and sissoko for 30m is the funniest transfer of the summer!!! Levy must have been crying when he signed that cheque

Liverpool will flatter to deceive they have had all their transfers in pre season for a month and still lost to burnley....

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
Send Fletcher on loan?? With our injury record, no way. Going to need him. Even to start sometimes. Ayew, Carroll, Sakho... who the fuck knows when fit or then what we're then going to get. Zaza, Callieri don't know English football. Yet.

Re: Transfer Rumour discussion thread
Noble, Obiang, Nordveidt

That's our weakest part of the team. Would have liked to have seen a decent defensive midfielder brought in. I am far from convinced Nordveidt will be the answer from what I have seen. If he doesn't deliver I would be tempted to stick Kouyate in there as a makeshift.

Adrian
Arbeloa
Masuaku
Reid
Ogbonna
Kouyate
Lanzini
Payet
Ayew
Antonio
Zaza
